One the doors are removed the original finish or paint can be removed. Removing the finish requires heavy duty chemicals and lots of fresh air. Then damaged areas like chips and dings can be addressed, filled with wood filler and sanded smooth. After all the damage is addressed the sealer can be applied, this may be part of the staining process depending on the system being used. After sealing and staining the finish coats are applied. The finish coats are the protective coat on the cabinets that protect them from daily use. Depending on the current state of the cabinets sanding and stripping may be needed to remove imperfections and existing finish.
